Connect with Enlightenment

An Empowerment is a special guided meditation and ritual ceremony which bestows upon us extraordinary blessings that heal our mental continuum and awaken our Buddha nature. When we receive an Empowerment, we are sowing the special seeds of enlightenment upon our mental continuum.

KMC Long Island generally holds two Empowerments per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The morning session of the Empowerment lasts two hours and includes ritual practices performed by the presider, our Resident Teacher, Kadam Holly McGregor, followed by a teaching and prayers. We then break for lunch and come back to listen to commentary and engage in the practice of the empowering Buddha.

“An Empowerment empowers us with a vision, a sense, an experience of what’s possible for us to accomplish – the transformation that’s possible for each and every one of us. Not only do we feel personally empowered to become the person we wish to be, to progress towards enlightenment, but we also feel empowered in how we perceive the world. We recognize that if we purify our mind, we purify our world. We see that there’s a possibility for everyone. We need that in this day and age. We need to be able to bring such an optimistic outlook, such a positive outlook into our lives and into our relationships with others. We all have this extraordinary potential, this potential for change, this potential for becoming a better person, the potential to become the person we wish to be. Actually, we have the potential to become an enlightened being. And, we sense that potential within our moments of peace or clarity or love, but how are we going to actualize that potential? That’s the purpose of an Empowerment. An Empowerment helps us connect to an enlightened being. The imagination is a very important component of an Empowerment. Through the imagination and through the guided meditation, we’re led into a relationship with a manifestation of enlightenment. We start getting a sense of what it would be like to be an enlightened being. It opens us up. It awakens us to our potential and the possibility of actualizing our potential. I think in this day and age, such a ritual, such a special, blessed and powerful ritual like an Empowerment is super important because most people are locked into a very limited view of themselves and the world and what’s possible for them. They feel powerless.”
