Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, appeared in this world and gave teachings for people with different problems and capacities. In all, he gave 84,000 different types of teaching, or Dharma. To help us understand how to integrate these teachings into our daily life, the Buddhist Master Atisha wrote Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, also known as the Stages of the Path, or Lamrim in Tibetan. Later, the Tibetan Buddhist Master Je Tsongkhapa wrote extensive, middling, and condensed commentaries to Atisha’s Lamrim teachings. Modern day meditation master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso prepared The New Meditation Handbook based on Je Tsongkhapa’s Lamrim commentaries in order to make it easier for people today to understand and practice this precious holy Dharma known as Kadam Lamrim.

With Kadam Lamrim, we can learn how to make ourself and others happy by applying practical meditations that help us:

  • Find openness and stillness within
  • Fill our life with joy
  • Solve our daily problems through meditation
  • Discover methods to accomplish our highest goals

As Geshe Kelsang says in The New Meditation Handbook:

“Lamrim instructions are not given just for the sake of intellectual understanding of the path to enlightenment. They are given to help us gain deep experience, and should therefore be put into practice. If we train our mind in these meditations every day, eventually we will gain perfect realizations of all the stages of the path. Until we have reached this stage, we should not get tired of listening to oral teachings on Lamrim or reading authentic Lamrim commentaries, and then contemplating and meditating on these instructions. We need to continually expand our understanding of these essential topics and use this new understanding to enhance our regular meditation.”

Everyone is welcome. No previous meditation experience is required.
