Help Support Our Upcoming Building Renovation Project The change happening within our center is palpable. It began in 2015 with visits from revered teachers Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong and Gen-la Kelsang Jampa, the General Spiritual Director and Deputy Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT), respectively. These teachers blessed our community with their presence and inspired our sangha community to think bigger … of our mission to bring Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s teachings of wisdom and compassion to even more people in Long Island. That set off a chain of events, beginning with a formal request from our Resident Teacher and Admin Director in 2016 to NKT founder Geshe Kelsang Gyatso asking permission to become a fully-recognized Kadampa Meditation Center (KMC). Venerable Geshe-la enthusiastically approved this request granting his blessing to transform from Dipamkara Buddhist Meditation Center to Kadampa Meditation Center Long Island (KMC-LI). This wonderful and meaningful distinction became possible through the superior efforts of so many current and former members who paved the way to build our center and its branches into what they are today. But, this is no time to rest. There is still so much to do and we need your help more than ever. Transitioning from Dipamkara Meditation Center to Kadampa Meditation Long Island (KMC-LI) required additional administrative and educational assistance to handle the ever-growing needs and demands of the maintenance of our facilities/buildings, the continued growth of our branches, expanded educational and community outreach programs, and the design and distribution of publicity. More resources are needed to support our efforts to bring the teachings of the Buddha to a world that so desperately needs to hear them. Through the kindness of our members and benefactors, we successfully raised $20,000 in our 2016 end-of-year giving campaign to help offset costs associated with the renovation of residential and office/administrative space in our Huntington location. This year, our plans are even bigger with a goal to raise $150,000 to completely re-design the front of the building in Huntington, giving it an entirely new facade to make it welcoming and attractive to many more people, while repurposing the interior space to maximize square footage and update features and finishings to create a modern urban temple with a contemporary vibe that members can feel proud of and that prospective new members will want to visit and hang out in. We know this goal is ambitious, but we believe we can achieve it with everyone’s help! Thank you for giving what you can out of gratitude for the teachings you have received, and the wish that others may hear and take these teachings to heart.
